Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

 (1840 – 1893)

The Nutcracker

For this 2-act ballet, Tchaikovsky chose Alexandre Dumas père's "Tale of the Nutcracker", which adapted Hoffmann's story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King".
