His Gayane ballet has 4 acts, in an Armenian setting, around a young woman called Gayane, who marries the good guy that rescues her from her bad husband.
The Sabre Dance is a movement in Act 4. It evokes a whirling war dance, where the dancers display their skill with sabres.
