Music #322 - Heinrich Schütz

Heinrich Schutz  

(1585–1672, German)

A German composer and organist,
- one most important composers of the 17th century along with Monteverdi
- the most important German composer before J.S. Bach

During two long visits to Gabrieli at Venice, he absorbed the Italian style, which he then amalgamated with the very different musical German tradition. 
His dramatic choral works, inspired by the ideals of Martin Luther, put German music on the map. He enjoyed a long and fruitful life.
