Très Riches Heures du duc de Berry (Folio 8: August)

In the miniature of August a party is depicted hunting on horseback, with the Duke's castle of Etampes in the background.
The Very Rich Hours of the Duke of Berry
The Très Riches Heures was illuminated for the French duke, Jean de Berry, by the three Limbourg brothers. The (black) death in 1416 of the patron and his painters left this book of hours unfinished. 



Grimani Breviary: The Month of August

The August page depicts hunting with hounds against a landscape background with an imposing castle.
a Grimany Breviary facsimile
Purchased around 1520 by the Venetian cardinal Grimani, this manuscript includes numerous miniatures of religious and secular subjects. 



The Miraculous Draft of Fishes

Christ tells Peter to cast his nets, which results in a catch of miraculous size.




The Death of Ananias [of Damascus]

Ananias of Damascus was one of the Seventy Disciples of Jesus.

(L) “The Towneley Lectionary ** is now in the New York Public Library. Used during services, the book contained six majestic, full-page miniatures opposite miniature depictions of the Evangelists. The illustrations, introduced the relevant readings from the Scripture. They include the Nativity, the Resurrection and the Last Judgment.”
