Music #32 - New Orleans Jazz (1)

New Orleans Jazz
1910-1940

“The first black jazz bands were large marching groups that were often called upon to play for funeral processions or Mardi Gras celebrations. Later, smaller groups were formed to play in the bars and whorehouse of the notorious Storyville district (1897-1917), and it is from them that the Dixieland ensemble took shape.”
