Sesshū Tōyō / 雪舟 等楊 

(Japanese, 1420–1506)

Landscapes of Autumn and Winter 
Sesshū Tōyō
- two hanging scrolls (46 x 29 cm each) c.1470-90
- National Museum (Tokyo)

Chinese Song Dynasty style of painting was well received in Japan, and replaced Yamato-e (大和絵), which was previously inspired by Chinese Tang Dynasty paintings.
