Painting #04B - to re-use

Hyacinthe Rigaud (1659–1743, French Baroque)

Louis XIV of France  (1638–1643-1715)
aka Louis the Great (Louis le Grand)
or the Sun King (le Roi-Soleil)
Hyacinthe Rigaud in 1701
Oil on canvas (277 x 184 cm)
Louvre, Paris

During Louis's reign of 72 years, France was the leading European power. The French state of Louisiana -- embedding the Mississippi River ("Great River") between present-day Canada and Mexico -- was named after him.
New France 1750

Louis was a king who loved dancing.

He loved ballet and frequently danced in court ballets during the early half of his reign. In general, Louis was an eager dancer who performed 80 roles in 40 major ballets. This approaches the career of a professional ballet dancer.
