Painting #A07 - An Abandoned City

An Abandoned City
- Fernand Khnopff (1858-1921, Belgian)
- pastel on paper (76 x 69 cm) in 1904
- The Royal Museum of Fine Arts (Belgium)

A depressive painting, triggered by reading the novel Bruges-la-Mort (1892), in which a man suffered from deep depression for 5 years, after the death of his wife that he deeply loved....

Khnopff resonated, as he also suffered from a deep depression after her beloved younger sister was married away, far far away.....
