Painting #B02 - The Angelus

The Angelus / 晚鐘
- Jean-François Millet (1814–1875, French)
- oil on canvas (56 × 66 cm) in 1859
- Musée d'Orsay (Paris)

The painting depicts a couple of peasants bowing in a field over a basket of potatoes to say a prayer, the Angelus, that together with the ringing of the bell from the church on the horizon marks the end of a day's work.

Millet is noted for his scenes of peasant farmers; he can be categorized as part of the Realism art movement.
